Youngsters Discover that a New Language is Child’s Play

In early childhood, children are capable of learning a new language at an incredible pace if the fundamentals are presented in the right way. That is precisely what happens in Language Workshop for Children (“LWFC”) preschools. The LWFC’s tested methods make it easy for children to learn a new language through play. Students participate in artistic, musical, social and scholastic activities suited to their individual interests and developmental level — and as they go about these activities, they develop language skills. They make friends, have fun and learn more about the world around them.

Children Learn Through Play!

In LWFC preschools students are immersed in a language so they absorb the new language, the same way that native speaking children do so they begin to think and speak a new language. Preschoolers are guided and encouraged by a dedicated staff of one adult instructor to every six children. Every teacher is a native speaker who has been trained to use The Thibaut Technique®, the LWFC’s distinctive method. The LWFC’s Preschool curriculum is supervised by an Early Childhood certified teacher.

Half-Day Preschool Program – Individualized Attention

Children flourish in the collaborative atmosphere central to this half-day preschool program. Our instructors follow a developmental philosophy that matches a child’s growth through a selection of activities. Curriculum is tailored to meet intellectual development, while providing a balance of structure and free time, so that each child is challenged and not overwhelmed. On any given day activities include several of these traditional preschool Activities (en Français, Español, or Mandarin Chinese):

      • storytelling
      • learning and singing the LWFC’s own vocabulary-building songs
      • listening to music
      • focusing on French, Spanish or Chinese language skills
      • drawing, arts and crafts, clay work
      • building with blocks and putting together puzzles
      • counting and number games
      • dancing, mime and movement
      • enjoying snacks and cleaning up afterwards
      • free play, organized play
      • dolls, visual aids and picture books
      • baking and eating their cake or cookies

Educational and Fun

The children absorb and process language actively through songs, mime, play, charades, movies, arts and crafts, visual aids, baking, and stories — all in French, Spanish or Chinese!

Individual Attention to Each Child

LWFC preschools allow children to respond naturally — in their own ways. Our staff makes certain that each preschooler feels comfortable and has a rewarding learning experience filled with recreation, fun and enthusiasm.

Language Instruction Plus a Whole Lot More

During their preschool years, children learn best through a precise combination of free and structured play. At the LWFC learning a new language is only part of what students learn. They also learn to share, interact with others, build self-confidence and self-esteem, and develop skills that stimulate imagination, reasoning and listening abilities.

Proven Methods – Proven Team

François Thibaut believes that learning language is easy for young children if the process is entertaining and natural. Since 1973, The Thibaut Technique®, the LWFC’s unique method has been Featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New York Magazine, Parents Magazine, People, Ladies Home Journal, CNN, BBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS, Telemundo and Univision. For many years Mr. Thibaut’s “French Workshop for Children” was a popular feature on WNYC. More recently, CNN’s “Parenting Today” called Mr. Thibaut “one of a very few experts in teaching languages to small children.”
